SHIFT Surpasses 5,000 Companies Supported in Back-Office Business Transformation
Launching “Backly,” A New Platform That Transforms Internal Inquiry Operations into Data Assets
Visualizing and Accumulating “Human Response Time and Knowledge” as Data,
Taking the First Step Toward “Next-Generation Organizations Where AI and Humans Collaborate”

SHIFT Inc. (“SHIFT,” headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; Masaru Tange, CEO and Representative Director), which supports clients in developing and delivering software services and products that drive sales, today announced that it has surpassed a cumulative total of 5,000 client companies supported in back-office business transformation.*1

Leveraging the expertise gained through these engagements, SHIFT has also launched “Backly,” a platform that centrally manages internal inquiries while visualizing response time and knowledge as organizational assets. Backly will be available starting today, June 9, 2026. By standardizing and visualizing internal inquiry operations—an area prone to siloed, person-dependent processes—Backly improves productivity and supports the development of a next-generation back-office infrastructure designed for future AI integration. SHIFT aims to accelerate further growth in the back-office digital transformation (DX) market—estimated at approximately 40 trillion yen—by deploying this service through its established customer touchpoints and operational expertise cultivated across 5,000+ engagements.

[Background of the Launch]
According to a study by the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research*2, Japan’s working-age population is projected to decline by approximately 4.33 million between 2020 and 2030. Against this backdrop, companies must urgently improve productivity by concentrating limited human resources on core business functions such as strategic planning and growth initiatives in order to sustain and enhance enterprise value.

However, in many organizations, internal inquiries and requests directed to back-office departments—such as IT, Corporate Services, and HR—are dispersed across multiple channels, including email, chat, and verbal communication. This fragmentation leads to duplicated responses, overlooked requests, and knowledge silos, ultimately reducing productivity. Under such circumstances, companies often lack visibility into key operational metrics, such as the number of outstanding inquiries or average resolution time. As a result, indirect costs—such as who is spending how much time on which tasks—remain opaque for executive management.

Drawing on its expertise in visualizing and standardizing person-dependent business processes—cultivated through its software testing business—SHIFT has delivered an end-to-end support framework spanning issue identification consulting, optimal IT tool implementation, and ongoing operations and maintenance (BPO) by professional personnel. Since launching “WASURENAI” (literally, “Never forget” in Japanese) in September 2023, SHIFT has expanded its back-office support in earnest. Through “WASURENAI” for IT asset management and “NAKUSANAI” (literally, “Never lose track of” in Japanese) for fixed asset and contract management, SHIFT has helped companies optimize the management of their corporate assets. In parallel, SHIFT has advanced process standardization and improvement through BPO and outsourcing services—and has now surpassed a cumulative total of 5,000 companies supported in back-office business transformation.

In recent years, SHIFT has also embedded AI across all internal business processes, including back-office functions, putting into practice next-generation operational models in which humans and AI collaborate. As the next step in these efforts, SHIFT has developed and launched “Backly”—aimed at visualizing and transforming into data assets the previously opaque elements of “human response time and knowledge,” and contributing to solving the societal challenge of labor shortages by building a next-generation framework where AI and humans work together.

[Future Outlook: Data Monetization of the Back Office and Comprehensive Transformation Support]

Through the integration of its SaaS portfolio—including “WASURENAI” for managing AI, SaaS, and IT assets; “NAKUSANAI” for managing contracts and fixed assets; and the newly launched “Backly”—SHIFT will support the visualization of all information related to “assets, finances, and people” within the back office. SHIFT will establish a foundation for accumulating data generated through these initiatives as data assets designed for future AI utilization, thereby creating an environment that facilitates the identification of process bottlenecks and continuous data-driven improvement.

Beyond tool implementation and internal process optimization, SHIFT will also provide advanced transformation support for customers seeking higher-level change. Starting from “visualization and data accumulation via SaaS,” SHIFT will expand into comprehensive operational support through “AI and professional human resources (AI BPaaS),” further enhancing AI-enabled execution and improvement of business operations. Through this evolution from tool provider to a data-driven business transformation partner, SHIFT aims to strengthen mid- to long-term partnerships with its customers.

Going forward, SHIFT will continue to position the back office as a strategic focus area. Leveraging its customer touchpoints and operational know-how cultivated through extensive support experience, SHIFT will deliver value tailored to each company’s transformation stage. Through these initiatives, SHIFT will strengthen long-term partnerships, create sustainable value, and contribute to addressing Japan’s structural labor shortage challenges.
